Back in the 1970s, Edinburgh Airport faced major issues with the concrete surface of its runway and taxiways. Cold planing was used to remove the damaged surface while keeping the airport operational, a challenging job that pushed the technology of the time to its limits.

Fast forward to winter 2025, and Power Plane returned to Edinburgh Airport to undertake another major runway milling project.

With one of the largest fleets of 2.2m planers in the UK, alongside the latest Wirtgen milling technology, our machines can remove material to depths of up to 350mm in a single pass, with millimetre accuracy.
