Dartford Tunnel M25 orbital motorway
Removal of existing bituminous road layers and precision removal of failed waterproofing within a 3 hour time window inside the tunnel.
This project required careful planning and early contractor involvement from the beginning. We needed multiple machines to separately remove the existing bituminous layers before more machines could get into position for the fine milling operation for removing the failed waterproofing.
This operation needed to be highly accurate and leave a clean surface as smooth as possible for the replacement waterproofing material and subsequent new bituminous layers all in the same night to allow this major route to open the next morning.
The finish provided by Power Plane had less than 0.5mm texture and the whole process was repeated nightly until the whole tunnel was resurfaced.
